Shelley Marguerite Grant (1960-2025)
Shelley Marguerite Grant (nee) Sundt, 65, passed away at her home in Anchorage on Saturday, June 21, 2025. She was born in Glennallen, Alaska on February 18, 1960.
Shelley is survived by her husband, Mike Grant; children, Andrew (Shoua) Grant and Marika (David) Reiser; her grandchildren, Aila Grant and Nora Reiser, all of Anchorage, Alaska; her older sister, Lynne (Mark) Martin-Steen of Vashon, Washington; and younger brother Arne N. (Joan) Sundt III of San Francisco, California.
Shelley’s family built Gakona Lodge, at mile 205 of the Glenn Highway, and operated it for many years. She attended elementary school in Gakona and Prescott, Arizona; high school in Anchorage, and university in Hawaii and Seattle.
Shelley worked with her mother in the bar and restaurant business in the Seattle area before moving back to Alaska to work with her father, mining at Poorman Creek near Talkeetna.
Shelley met her husband, Mike, at Montana Creek. They were married at Big Lake on August 24, 1985, and lived in Anchorage where she worked for the State of Alaska. Shelley also worked for the Prince William Sound Science Center in Cordova for several years, volunteering with many local organizations before returning to Anchorage and retiring.
While in Cordova Shelley joined the Women of the Moose and was also inducted into the Pioneers of Alaska Women’s Igloo #5 with her mother, Nancy, and her sister, Lynne.
Shelley was a good friend to many, and dearly loved by her family. No services are to be held, per her request. May she rest in eternal peace.
