Area Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve Acting Superintendent Joshua Scott, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is opening a two-day moose hunting season in the Unit 11 federal registration permit hunt area (FM1106).
The season will open at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 21 and close at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, unless modified by a subsequent federal special action.
The FM1106 hunt area encompasses the Unit 11 remainder and the portion of Unit 11, south and east of a line running along the north bank of the Chitina River, the north and west banks of the Nizina River, & the west bank of the West Fork of the Nizina River, continuing along the western edge of West Fork Glacier to the summit of Regal Mountain. A map is available at the park’s headquarters in Copper Center and by contacting wrst_subsistence@nps.gov. Current FM1106 permit holders can use their existing permit for this hunt.
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve is reminding federal subsistence hunters that the additional two-day moose hunting season in Unit 11 applies only to the FM1106 hunt area.
The additional hunting opportunity does not apply to RM291. The RM291 season remains unchanged and closes Sept. 20 for subsistence users.
Hunters should verify their permit and hunt area before hunting.
