The Buzz in the Valley!

Posted

Saturday March 21 was the Sixth annual Copper River Valley beekeepers meeting.

This year we also had people from Valdez and Fairbanks attend. Local area beekeepers and our friends from Fairbanks presented different aspects of beekeeping with practical hands-on instruction.

A special thank you to all of the volunteers who contributed to the event.

There was also a lot of discussion among more advanced beekeepers on best practices and possible solutions for our far north cold weather beekeeping. Specifically our short seasons and preparing our bees for larger honey harvest and wintering techniques. It is the goal of our association to work towards self-sustainability where we raise our own Queens and build colonies in the summer for the next year's bee yard. Several local area beekeepers have volunteered to be mentors for beginning beekeepers.

Jimmy Harlow is taking orders for O.H.B package bees and Queens (907)987-2989

We are also having a community beekeeping yard here in Kenny lake for anyone that would like to have access to the mentorship program. And the use of beekeeping equipment for new beekeepers that would like to try their hand at beekeeping
